The pages of history reveal an intense struggle among early China missionaries over the ancestor cult, Confucianiam, and emperor worship. This author discusses one controversial approach, which is pertinent to efforts of missionaries today to make the gospel culturally relevant.

This being our first issue of the bicentennial year, perhaps it is well to consider the bicentennial in the perspective of missions. What can a missionary do to celebrate 1776 in 1976?

MANIPULATED MISSIONS
Some foreign governments, especially anti-Western ones, for years have accused missionaries of being spies. Reports now coming to light substantiate these charges in some instances. Although the practice has virtually ceased, the implication of these reports may place the entire missionary effort under suspicion.

Is extension education more culturally relevant than residence education? This anthropologist exposes the “myth” that it necessarily is, while making observations that will serve to strengthen both extension and residence education.
