“How can we sing the Lord’s Song in a strange land?” This plaintive question was asked by Israel in exile. Gone were the familiar rites and temple, chants and incense, offerings and sacrifices. Where is the “strange land”?
If missions are about bang for the buck, France is a bad deal.
In the midst of all the memorials of September 11, we would like to call at least four things to mind.
Issues of terminology for God are highly convoluted when working with Muslims in non-Arabic-speaking lands where Christians use alternate terms for God.
“Take every thought to make it obedient to Christ … Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry … See to it that … no bitter root grows up” (2 Cor. 10:5, Eph. 4:26, Heb. 12:15).
Honest business is rooted in God. Consider God’s character, activities and the objects of God’s actions. God is the Creator. God creates for himself and for others (Gen. 1:14). We are created in God’s image so the stamp of God’s character is in us.
Influenced by the times, mission agencies have come of age and require that their missionaries develop strategic plans.
The world has changed a lot since I first “went” to the mission field. Traditionally world missions has been viewed geographically from a “here and there” view point.
Acts records many instances of persecution among early believing communities. However, the record is clear. Believing communities existed.
Beyond doubt, the 10/40 Window as a trend has mobilized many like never before.
