Have you ever walked into a Christian bookstore and felt overwhelmed by the number of interesting books that you would like to read? We sure have. In fact, this past year alone an estimated 24,000 new Christian titles were published around the world (Barrett, 1995).

While imported books sit on shelves, there’s a famine for hearing the word of the Lord in context.

The clueless are the informational have-nots, who, like the poor of the world, constitute the vast majority and often represent the more difficult challenge.

It’s Sunday morning in Kagimba, a densely populated village in Kenya near Lake Victoria. Ben Koyo, a church elder, takes his bicycle to Kagimba Church to wait for the pastor. He waits patiently but knows that, like most other Sunday mornings, he will wait in vain.

While teaching a course on the Minor Prophets at a Bible school in Tanzania, I discovered a decided difference in my students’ understanding of truth. The discovery began when I assigned each student one book to research and then teach to the class.
